To Go On Is Victory: Wishing Stations

This exhibition is an invitation to collaborate in celebrating the powerful relationship between imagination & resiliency. Combining my favorite mediums; ceramics, textiles and public engagement, I have created textured, colorful altars, loosely themed by the late Puerto Rican astrologers, Walter Mercado's signature salutation, Salud (Health), Dinero (Money), Paz (Peace) y mucho Amor (Love) and the late artist, Ana Mendieta's poetry. I invite the public to anonymously deposit hopes, wishes, secrets in verbal or written form into unfinished ceramic vessels staged with flag forms. The messages deposited in the pieces will then be incorporated into the final firing of the pieces in the form of ashes as an ingredient in the glaze application, making these future fossils symbolic time capsules of this community's collective desires.
The prompt is simple, speak your desire into the vessels you feel most pulled by or write it down and leave it in or around the pieces.
